The Development of Britain's Beloved Swan Teasmade  

It could be argued that the concepts and innovations of Samuel Rowbottom in the late 1800's were the foundations of the Swan Teasmade - albeit in a more basic state. Samuel Rowbottom's planned invention is described as “using steam from boiling water to force hot water out of a kettle/heater through a tube into the teapot”.  

However, it would be far closer to the truth to pass the accolade of the Swan Teasmade development to a man called Frank Clarke. The Birmingham Gunsmith in 1902 decided to innovate a Clock that could provide hot water - much latterly known and branded as a Teasmade.

By definition a Teasmade is a machine capable of making tea automatically at a given or programmed time and/or interval. In 1930 the first electrical / electronic teasmade was manufactured. While the invention was relatively popular in the UK market, it didn't really catch on and become a mass household item until the Swan Teasmade was marketed and branded in the 1960's and 1970's.

While the Swan Teasmade in 2013 is manufactured in China, with a new slim-line shape, the Teasmade still depends on British Engineering and Design to push the products next generations. With the Swan Teasmade integrating both a Bedside Light, and Radio its become an all in one gadget suitable for the 21st Century Home
